The MD player works great, the software is a little unstable, but still usable With a couple more updates It might be comparable to Itunes. From reading older reviews, I guess it's already been vastly improved. Don't let the software deter you from buying it though. The sound quality is OUTSTANDING. Converting the music to a Mini disc takes away virtually no sound quality. If you appreciate good sound quality then buy this.

In addition to transferring music at up to 32x speed (using its LP4 mode), the unit's SonicStage Jukebox software stores and manages digital music files, custom playlists, and music transfers, making it a cinch to transfer music to the device. The MZ-NE410 offers high-speed transfer from a PC via a direct USB connection, and it can record more than five hours of music on one 80-minute minidisc (using LP4 mode). It also uses Sony's skip-free G-Protection technology, which eliminates or reduces skipping during many active uses. The MZ-NE410 is compatible with the RealOne music player and the pressplay.com online music subscription service. It plays back ATRAC3 files and supports multiple Internet audio formats, including MP3, WMA, and WAV. The unit provides up to 56 hours of continuous playback on one AA battery.

The Easy Skip group-folder function helps organize songs into albums or groups. Once the music is transferred to the MZ-NE410, you can easily skip from group to group. Besides the bundled SonicStage software and SonicStage simple burner application, the MZ-NE410 includes software for creatively organizing music. MoodLogic software goes beyond typical jukebox applications, letting you compile music by mood or tempo rather than simply by artists and song titles.

MoodLogic corrects file information by identifying and retitling mislabeled tracks during ID3 tag cleaning. It also has a feature called Music Marker, which lets you "tag" music during playback. Once the device is reconnected to a PC, MoodLogic retrieves the marks, connects to the Musiclub Web site, and provides information about the song and artist and links to download new tracks, purchase CDs, or discover similar artists.

Note: The MZ-NE410's recording features and bundled software are not compatible with the MacOS operating system

THERE IS NO NEED TO BUY THIS ITEM - Ian Jensen - New York
This is NOT a digital recorder. This will dub CD's and MP3s to the idiotic sonic stage software created by the woefully stupid minidisc division of Sony.

YOU CANNOT USE A MICROPHONE ON THIS UNIT.

Obviously they use the word "recorder" to falsely market this product. There are plenty of other actual minidisc recorders for the same price on Amazon. It's almost impossible to tell unless the picture shows a red colored hole on the side. All the minidisc products on this site claim to be recorders so it will be hard to tell what you are getting unless you find the specs on a different web site.

Of course once you get one that has a LINE/MIC in jak, the recordings are amazing.

I know nothing about it and will not ever know anything about it, but as I keep getting notices to review this product, I have decided to do it in this manner. PLEASE ignore this review. this product is easy to use. the discs are scratch-proof and dust-proof. you can drop the discs and not mess your music up. they require less storage space for your library.the antiskip feature ensures enjoyable music experience.

MDs are as virtual-CD in sound quality as my ear can detect. The software usually operates smoothly, too.
